Nationals 6, Mets 4: Bern Baby, Bern! Roger Bernadina: 3-5, 2 HRs, 3 RBI. Game saving catch in the 5th, game winning HR in the 9th.

And a big tip of the cap to Stammen (2-2, 3 RBI, 5.0IP, 6H, 4 ER, 4BB, 2K)...and four shutout innings from a bunch of guys not named Bruney: Burnett, Walker, Clippard,  and Capps.

Meanwhile...

• Surprise! Jason Marquis will have surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow. "They're" saying 2 months, but see you in 2011?

• Big start for John Lannan tomorrow in Colorado. Keeping our fingers crossed that he doesn't join Marquis on the operating table.

• There is no beef between Scott Olsen and Jim Riggleman after Tuesday night. So let it go, okay?

• MASN's Phil Wood takes a shot at shadowy "cybercritics":

  At what point will the cynics take a step back and admit the Nats are a pretty good ballclub? Not a great team, mind you, but a team that competes day in, day out. Everytime they win, I sense a lot of their cybercritics are disappointed, so many of them having predicted a 90+ loss season.

  We want names! Just because someone expects the worst doesn't mean they're hoping for the worst, Phil. For example: Nationals Enquirer staff are guilty of predicting a 70-92 season. But we're thrilled by the winning. To prove the point: I just typed that last sentence wearing one of those  big Nationals #1 foam fingers on my right hand.

Amen, Mike. But to be honest, after watching Bruney's postgame interview after the Meltdown on Tuesday night, I just felt bad for the guy. Almost makes me want to stop ripping him for sucking.
