ENQUIRER EXCLUSIVE: Screech runners-up revealed!

20090302  20090302bird2

"He's like a teenager now. Wait until you see his new attitude. I think he wants to be youthful and hip and cool. Adults aren't cool." (Chartese Burnett, via DC Sports Bog, 3/2/2009)

The Kids agree: Nats swing and miss with New Screech.

On the same day that the Nationals unveiled a new, skinnier, creepier, less-kid-friendly version of their mascot Screech, anonymous, unnamed sources provided The Nationals Enquirer with exclusive photos of two other options "strongly" considered by Washington Nationals Marketing staff to replace the dumpier, kid-friendly Screech. According to sources, neither of the options above conveyed the right mix of youth and cool the team was looking for, and according to one source with knowledge of the situation, both were "just far too scary" for kids.

(Memo to Ted Lerner, you probably could've saved yourself some cash by simply entering the words "bird costume" into your favorite search engine of choice.)
