(John Lannan had to look away when asked about the workload of the Nationals bullpen. Grainy screengrab of postgame video captured from MASNSports.com)
So, did John Lannan disrespect Jim Riggleman in a postgame interview with MASN's Debbi Taylor after last night's game? MASN's Ben Goessling thinks not. But jump ahead to around the 1:25 mark of the video on MASN's website, and you be the judge:
Debbi Taylor: "Last thing, John. As starters, when you see the bullpen have to average 4 innings a game, how tough is that for them?"
Lannan: "I got nothing to say about that. Because, that's just how our manager manages. And, uh, that's it."
You'll notice that as Debbi gets about halfway through her question, Lannan looks away from the camera (see picture above); seems annoyed by the question. And from his answer, it seems he's at least a little annoyed by his manager's hook. But did he show up Riggleman with his words? Maybe a little? Now, if Lannan had said "that's just how our manager OVERmanages" we'd really have something to talk about...

I've got something to say about that, Mr. Lannan. That's just how bad our starters have been SUCKING! Oh yeah, that's it.

I agree that Riggleman often gives them the hook early. But, come on Lannan, look at how poor the starters have been overall. If not for Livan and Strasburg, we'd be stinking.

Absolutely, our manager always wants to go to the strength of the team? That's strange. Why wouldn't he, that's the only facet of the team that's been in any way reliable. The starters are to blame for most of the losses, and the inconsistency of the offense for the rest.
