Yankee Killers

"We felt that despite our record we have been playing better baseball. We've just been beating ourselves defensively. We came in, these kids threw strikes, we played good defense, and we ended up winning the series against one of the top teams in the major leagues."
(Manny Acta, via Nationals Journal, 6/18/2009)

Nats Take New York.

David 3, Goliath 0: Miracles happen. Down go the Yankees!

Well worth the wait: After 5+ hour rain delay, Nats flash leather, Craig Stammen rolls for first career win.

And suddenly, Manny Acta is looking like a pretty good manager...what's that old saw about pitching and defense? First series win since AZ, May 8-10?

It got really dicey in the 7th, but Ron Villone and Julian Tavarez held down the fort. And we officially take back some if not all of the bad things we ever said about Mike MacDougal (save #2).

Can't wait to read the NY Tabloids tomorrow morning.

Bring on the Jays and Red Sox. The AL East is a piece of cake!
