Stan Kasten Lifts Jim Bowden's Gag Order

20090222jb

...and Jim is back on the Hot Seat.

Jimbo Speaks! But more trouble!

...And, in Classic Jimbo fashion, he doesn't disappoint in his first session of the spring with reporters; Mark Zuckerman of the Washington Times captures Jimbo in all his glory: where somewhat predictably, Jim Gets His Red(s) On.

Question: Does this remind you of any other teams you've had in the past?

Bowden: "The closest would be the 99 team we had in Cincinnati that came together and won 96 games. But this is different, because...[fill in the blank here with the sound of smoke being blown up the collective butt of Nationals fans]."

Yes! God bless you, Jim Bowden. Just for the record, we hope you don't get fired!

But, if the latest report from Melissa Segura on SI.com is true, seems you really are on the hot seat:

A federal investigation into the skimming of signing bonuses given to baseball prospects from Latin America is looking at Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden as far back as 1994, when he was GM of the Cincinnati Reds, according to a baseball executive familiar with the investigation.

How come it's always about the Reds with you, Jim? It would be oddly fitting if, in the end, Jimbo gets taken down because of bonus skimming while he was with the Reds, no?
