Give me a break, Jim.

"Nick Johnson, Austin Kearns and Ryan Zimmerman are our 3-4-5 hitters, and they're not in the lineup. When they're not there, you won't have the same ability to score runs as you would if they were there. They were in a slump, and normally guys like that hit out of slumps because of their proven track record, and I think they would have. Certainly, we need to get our big boys healthy and back on the field."
(Jim Bowden, via Washington Post, 6/08/2008)

We're not buying it.

Meanwhile...why even keep the Lo Duca question on the table? Why not endorse Jesus as the starter the rest of the way? Classic Jimbo:

"The way Flores is playing, obviously it's an easy decision for Manny. Certainly, Paul's a guy who can hit .300, and it's something we'll deal with at the time when Paul's healthy and comes back in there." (Jim Bowden, via Nationals dot com, 6/08/2008)

You can't blame him, it's clear from the picture that he spent WAY too much time fake baking and it fried his brain a little...

snake oil. i wonder if HE believes what he says half the time.

when he compared one of the draft picks as having "Barry Bonds' hitting eye" and "Vlad Guerrero's bat speed", i almost threw up.

Dave, I think harper nailed it today, that there is a shred of truth in what Jim's selling about the injuries to NJ and Zim, but I just wish he'd come out and be honest about the impact injuries have had on the team's offensive performance: it's been minimal, at best.

With Lo Duca, Jimbo still seems to be grasping at the last shred of hope that Lo Duca will return and somehow validate that stinker of a contract that could, at season's end, prove to be the final nail in the proverbial coffin (in terms of Jimbo's job).

ckstevenson, yes, I can't tell if it's fake tan or just a bad picture of the TV...but if it's the former, it's not a bad theory you've got there.

he'll be lucky to make it to the All Star Break (*wink* *wink*)
