"There's a reason why they got him. This guy can pitch."
(Manny Acta, via Washington Post, 8/9/2008)
Brewers 5, Nationals 0: Wow. So THAT'S what a #1 starter looks like! Like Manny said, this guy can pitch. Nats no match for CC.
The opening line in the gamer on Milwaukee Journal Sentinel online pretty much sums it up: "The Washington Nationals never really had a chance."
Hey Mr. Lerner, if you're not gonna pay your rent or spend money signing your draft picks, how 'bout you hand over a few of those big bags of cash you have laying around the house and make a run at Sabathia in the offseason?
Meanwhile...
- Paul Lo Duca got his wish: he's going back to Florida. Well, not yet, but maybe. AAA-Albuquerque, actually. The Pusher had this to say, via The Palm Beach Post: "I'm excited for the chance to get back. And I just want an opportunity to help a team that has a chance to go to the playoffs." Go F yourself, Paul.
- Still can't figure out Bergmann.
- Mock to start Monday.
- You have to feel bad for Ryan Church.
- Yup, probably won't be long now for Jimbo -- he'll make it through the end of the season at least, unless there really is something to his involvement in the DR scouting scandal.
- Nice work, everybody! Racing Presidents trounced the Swinging Friar in Home Run Derby's Mascot Brackets, move on to the next round!

go to hell, it isn't your money.

Oh, but you are sadly mistaken! It IS my money!
Look, I know it's not even worth thinking about it because it'll never happen, but here at The Nationals Enquirer, we dare to dream -- Despite Mark L's explanation of The Family's idiotic philosophy about signing FAs a few week's ago:
"Nobody wants - you don't want to be in the situation where you wake up one morning and Johan Santana has won eight games all season and you owe him $150 million. That's the thing. You see a lot of guys for $150 million, but we're going to stick with what we're doing. We're going to take a lot of heat from you and everybody else, but I think you're starting to see it."

They would need to be some big bags of cash.
