WHAT THE HELL,
IT'S NOT MY MONEY!

20080619cg

Nationals, Guzman, agree to 2 year, $16 million deal.

Gut reaction: Bad deal*. Our sources tell us Ted Lerner threw up on Mark Lerner moments after giving the OK to open his checkbook.

We need some time to stew about this one. We've got no qualms with Guzman, but we're a little leery of the money, especially if this is the move the organization holds up for all to see in the offseason as a sign that they care about short term gains while turning a blind eye to some of the arms on the FA market: "See! We're spending money!" If you believe that Guzman would've commanded much, much bigger money in free agency in the offseason, here's hoping this is the first move in some elaborate sign-and-trade plot cooked up by our Jimbo. Otherwise, shame on you Jimbo, for not learning your lesson the first time you threw boatloads of cash at Guz.

This much we know: Guzmania is alive and well over at NTP.

*Like we said, we need more time to mull this one over.
