All in the Family

20040906bb

"This wasn't a team that was looking for a second baseman. We're happy with what we have in Ronnie Belliard and Felipe Lopez. That being said, I'm always a big believer in assets. That a really good thing when you're GM."
(Jim Bowden, via Nationals Journal, 2/18/2008)

Ever the Ass (et) man, Jimbo goes dumpster diving and signs ancient Bret Boone after failed attempt to sign Ray Boone.

Hey, he'll fit right in with the other Boones on the payroll; and Paul Lo Duca (*wink* *wink*)

Meanwhile, apparently there are still many, many Boones available on the open market. Yes, as NTP says, "Bret Boone stretches the definition of useful asset beyond recognition," but this no-risk deal has Jim Bowden Special written all over it. Way to go, Jimbo!
